Ed Markey
Vice President, Public Relations and Communications, North American Tire, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

Peter HolranEdward W. Markey has served as Goodyear’s vice president of public relations and communications for the company’s North American Tire business since December 2003. In that role, he is responsible for all communications and publicity strategy and activities for Goodyear’s largest business unit.

Since joining the company, Markey has overseen the strategy and execution of a wide variety of communications subjects, including: new product launches; brand development; labor negotiations; NASCAR sponsorship; crisis issues and management communications for Goodyear’s senior leadership in North America.

Prior to joining Goodyear, Markey was vice president of communications for the Cleveland Cavaliers/Gund Arena Company. He moved to Ohio after having spent 12 years handling public relations for NBC Sports in New York, the final six years as vice president of sports press and special projects. Markey, a 1981 graduate of St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt., started his career as assistant sports information director at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. In 1985 he was named sports information director at Harvard. In 1987, he joined NBC Sports as a media relations representative and served as the network's primary media contact for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea.

He was promoted to director of sports information, media relations in 1990 and held that position until being named vice president of sports press in 1997.

Markey and his wife, Mary Neagoy, have two young children, Alice and Russell. They reside in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
