BIOGRAPHYAlana SchmittVICE PRESIDENT CAUSE BRANDING GROUPAlana Schmitt joined Cone in January 2004 with a unique combination of corporate, agency and nonprofit experience in strategic marketing, branding and business development. She is Vice President of the Cause Branding discipline. Since joining the agency in January 2004, Alana has built strategic partnerships among businesses, nonprofits and communities. She advises clients such as Procter & Gamble, CVS/pharmacy and Gillette on cause branding, strategic philanthropy, community relations, and corporate social responsibility. Alana has deep experience building brands through influencer marketing, conducting strategic communications to reach key stakeholders and impact social change and corporate citizenship initiatives. Prior to joining Cone, Alana worked at Verizon where she was Director of Brand Strategy. She and her team were responsible for ensuring employees understood and embraced the brand strategy. She worked to ensure front-line organizations embodied the brand strategy in customer interactions. Alana built the brand in non-traditional ways and through the customer experience. Alana joined Verizon (former Bell Atlantic) in 1995 and launched the company’s first Relationship Marketing programs for residential customers. She then had responsibility for designing and developing consumer revenue growth marketing programs and consumer mass media. Following that, she worked on a special assignment with the Business Strategy and Development team to create an e-LEC. On that project, she was responsible for developing the new brand, plus creating all the marketing plans and systems for an Internet based telco. At the end of that assignment, Alana joined the Brand Strategy team where worked from 2000-2003. Alana earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a Master of Business Administration from Marymount University. She has also attended several programs at the elite Center for Creative Leadership. Alana lives in Georgetown with her husband and two children.
