Under-appreciation kills. That's the main message of the recently released Towers Watson Global Recognition study. The study, which took the pulse of 10,333 people from thousands of companies in 13 different countries, found that more than 79% of people cite a lack of appreciation as a key for leaving their jobs.
Only 12% of respondents said they receive frequent appreciation for great work, an alarmingly low figure.
To make matters worse, a gap exists between what a company—and senior management, in particular—think's its doing to appreciate great work and what its employees see happening on a day-to-day basis. While 56% of senior management surveyed felt their company was above average at appreciation, only 23% of staff shared that sentiment.
How can companies close this gap? According to the data, employees seek some form of recognition every seven days.
