JKP Group: Filling the Talent Void Without Breaking the Bank

August 7, 2008 | 9:45 am

ATLANTA, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to the challenges of a tight economy and competitive market, a sister team has launched JKP Group offering professional marketing communications at affordable rates. The firm is targeting companies that need high-end talent but can't hire full-time employees or pay consultants to do minimum work for maximum pay. JKP Group provides a practical alternative by providing top-notch services without charging costly and complicated retainers.

Julie Preiss, based in Los Angeles, and Karen Preiss Miller, based in Atlanta, have a proven track record of success in marketing, communications and public relations. The formation of JKP Group is the culmination of a lifelong pursuit to combine their shared work ethic, professionalism and writing expertise.

"Organizations are scrutinizing the way they do business in this era of $4 a gallon gas prices and skyrocketing travel costs," said Preiss. "Despite cutbacks, companies still need to get their messages out without breaking the bank. That's where we excel. We offer our expertise at hourly rates, and we don't hide behind retainers where there's often no accountability for time."

Before forming JKP Group, Preiss worked in the telecom and high technology industries for FORTUNE 100 companies and start-ups, including nearly 11 years with MCI Telecommunications, now Verizon. A consultant since 2004, she has provided marketing and communications expertise across industry sectors including telecom, high tech, sports, entertainment and media.

"We understand what clients want because we've worked on both sides of the playing field," said Miller. "In the corporate setting, we've hired and managed consultants, and we've also worked in that capacity ourselves. That's why we're setting the bar high. Clients should expect their consultants to be enthusiastic and responsive while providing superior work."

Miller spent the majority of her career in public relations for the Delta unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, later heading the communications team at Atlanta Public Schools. A specialist in executive and employee communications, speechwriting and media relations, she's worked as a consultant since 2006.

The sisters, less than a year apart in age, grew up in the Atlanta area and attended the University of Georgia where both majored in journalism. "We have diverse but complementary backgrounds," said Preiss. "And we share the same passion for not just meeting but exceeding our clients' expectations."
