Layle Nelson, vice president in APCO Worldwide’s Washington, D.C., office, specializes in developing and implementing grassroots and public education campaigns. Ms. Nelson has extensive experience in grassroots communication, developing earned media strategies and managing large-scale field operations. She has led state campaigns around healthcare, legal reform, and gaming issues on behalf of clients including the Business Roundtable, the American Tort Reform Association and Harrah’s Entertainment. She has also developed award-winning corporate grassroots programs and internal communication programs.
Prior to joining APCO, Ms. Nelson managed national grassroots programs for the American Heart Association where she developed the association’s first grasstops program and implemented new technologies to create more effective grassroots communication. Ms. Nelson was also responsible for coordinating state legislative activities nationwide.
Before joining the American Heart Association, Ms. Nelson was with the National Rifle Association, where she was responsible for engaging the association’s two million sportsmen in political activities and managing state ballot initiative campaigns.
Ms. Nelson is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Literature.
