2016 Diversity & Inclusion Awards: Diversity & Inclusion Campaign

Winner: Mastercard - Launch and Implementation of the PRIDE BRG Mexico and Central America Chapter of Mastercard

MasterCard set out to leverage diversity in 2016 by promoting awareness and inclusion for all MasterCard employees, fostering an environment that promoted an employee's ability to contribute to business objectives regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. The company also sought to promote a safe, supportive and productive work environment for all employees at MasterCard, increasing loyalty and productivity and assisting the company in becoming an employer of choice for people of all walks of life. PRIDE GeoNorth was launched to promote an environment of diversity from within with company. PRIDE promotes equality internally and has begun bringing its message of inclusion to the outside world as well.

PRIDE is part of an inter-company association of LGBT programs at big brands like Citi, Microsoft, Google, Dow, JP Morgan and others. The main goal is to gather and share best practices and develop impactful projects like The Pride Connection Annual Summit, support of the Human Rights Campaign and the PRIDE parade. Such efforts have had international success. MasterCard delivered the first card to a transgender person with her new name in Central America. In Mexico City, the company signed “El Gran Acuerdo Igualitario,” a document recognizing MasterCard as a highly inclusive company in the city.
