Nearly 600 daily and weekly newspapers in the United States have
an online edition, according to research conducted by Editor &
Publisher (E&P). E&P tallied 368 U.S. daily and 214 weekly newspapers
operating online sites, in most cases on the World Wide Web. "E&P
is receiving notice of five to 10 new online ventures involving
newspaper companies each day, and we see no slowdown in the forecast,"
said Colin Phillips, E&P's co-publisher.
Worldwide, E&P has identified 1,115 newspapers online, up from
